The Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has been lauded over massive road rehabilitation in the state, especially the Ikwerre road dualisation project in Diobu, Port Harcourt.

The commendation was made by traders motorists and residents of the area.

Speaking to The Tide on Monday at the education bus stop, mile one diobu, Mr. Monday Chikwem a commercial bus driver said, “No body could ever believe that Ikwerre road could be transformed to a mini London considering the total neglect Diobu suffered in the hands of the past governments in the state”.

Before now, he said, “Ikwerre Road was known to be surrounded by puddles of smelling drainage flooding from mile one to mile three, making the whole environment to be dirty and polluted, but today Amaechi’s government has taken care of the flooding. It is worthy of commendation”, he added.

A fresh fish trader at Afikpo by Ikwerre Road, Mrs. Ibiba Alabo, pointed out to The Tide, that previously when it rains the volume of the flooding experienced in the area was enormous, lamenting that they stand in that flood to do their business because they have no other choice, but that Governor Amaechi has as per this Ikwerre road project put smile on their faces as well as redeeming them from their major challenges, and the boundary line between the commercial bus parking space and the traders have also been drawn.

A resident in the area Nze Ijebuonwu told The Tide that formerly the road was so flooded that it was almost impossible for residents to cross to their premises accept by temporary bridges, but with the dualisation and inland drainage system on Ikwerre Road the flood has disappeared, the roads are smooth, there are walk ways, flowers planted, street lights and the general neatness of the road have added beauty and facelift to diobu area.
