17th NSF: Team Rivers Resumes Camping, March

Team Rivers, Rivers State contingent to the 17th National Sports Festival tagged “Garden City Games 2011” billed to hold in Port Harcourt are set to resume another phase of camping as part of preparation for the event, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) has said.

Chairman of the LOC and Vice Chairman of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) for the festival, Engr. Tele Ikuru, disclosed this yesterday shortly after a meeting of the LOC in Port Harcourt.           

Speaking through the Chairman of the Publicity subcommittee of the LOC and State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, Engr. Ikuru said the resumed camping would commence by the first week of March.

Engr. Ikuru, who is also the State Deputy Governor, also announced that bids for hotels and other hospitality businesses to be engaged for the event would soon be out, expressing optimism that the host, Rivers State, was set to stage an exceptional sports fiesta.

He stated that the State would soon witness an influx of tourists as a build up to the event, noting that work at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium was currently at an appreciable stage, assuring that the festival, which has been shifted to June, promises a lot of excitement.
