A barber’s shop operator in Port Harcourt, Mr. Femi Samuel says massive involvement of youths in self reliant ventures will reduce unemployment in the country.

In an interview with newsmen yesterday, Mr. Samuel noted that over-dependence on “white collar” jobs was adversely affecting the economy of the country.

Samuel, who is a graduate of accounting said venturing into a business would contribute immensely in Nigeria’s development.

“One can start business with a small capital and you understand that success begins with a right mindset, right words and right plans,”  noting that barbing is a good business and very easy to manage for a living.”

According to him, the reason people fail in business is because they lack knowledge in the business they venture into “and when you venture blindly, you may fail woefully.”

He thus, urged people to learn the intricacies of the business that they want to go into.

The barber said, barbing requires a huge sum of money, and the start-up capital may be around N150,000-N200,000 depending on the location.

“At least you pay for a shop N100,000 and use the remaining money for your chipper and interiors,” he explained.

He expressed gratitude to the government for implementing the national Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme which enables some youths to gather some money during service.

“The money I used in this business was made during my service year,” he said.

Samuel explained that “one major thing required for any person to succeed in business is determination.”
