‘Defection From PDP ’ll Not Affect House’
A member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Rivers State House of Assembly, says the defection of some of its members to the opposition parties is a sign that democratic precepts strive in the Assembly and in the state in general.
The House Leader, Hon Chidi Llody who made this known in an interview with Assembly correspondents in Port Harcourt, said the Nigerian Constitution allows for cross-carpeting in the House as a democratic principle.
Hon Lloyd who represents Emohua constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly stated that the defection of some of its members to the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN will not have any implication on the service delivery of the House. Rather, he described the development as a healthy prospect for democracy.
The House Leader, denied allegation that some of its members were denied their rights and duties in the House.
It would be recalled that one of the honourable members of the House, Nnamdi Obi had publicly announced his defection to the Action Congress of Nigeria, on the floor of the House, four other members of the Assembly whose names are yet to be announced are also said to have defected from PDP to other opposition parties.
