Voters Registration …NBA Cautions Against Time Extension
As the voters registration exercise enters its last stage, the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to shift its closing date.
The President of NBA, Mr Joseph Daudu (SAN), who spoke in Kaduna yesterday, said any shift in date might create room for fraud.
Mr Dauda, noted that if INEC shifts the closing date, it might also run foul of the time specification of the Electoral Act.
The legal icon rather advised that an extra one week to capture the fingerprints of those whose prints were not captured by the Direct Data Capturing Machine should be allowed.
Dauda who gave the suggestion in Kaduna when he was doing a review of the voters registration exercise, noted that if INEC stood by the closing date of the exercise, it would show a high level of seriousness on its part.
It would be recalled that most Nigerians including Governor Amaechi had called for the extention of the date of the registration exercise, in order to allow more people to be registered due to the earlier difficulties experienced in the operations of the DDC machines.
