Voters Registration Improves In Enugu
The registration of eligible voters in some parts of Enugu metropolis recorded remarkable improvement on Sunday.
The Tide correspondents, who monitored the exercise, observed that many people waited patiently to be registered.
At Igbariam and Achara Layout Primary Schools, which had no fewer than 10 registration units each, the exercise went on smoothly.
An NYSC Registration Officer 1, who preferred anonymity, told our correspondent that he had registered no fewer than 300 people as at 4.00 p.m.
He said there was no problem with the exercise as the DDC machines, scanners, printers; register and indelible ink were available and working perfectly.
Mrs Gladys Onyema, who came for registration, confirmed that the process was going on smoothly.
“Although we have a large turnout of people, the exercise is moving on smoothly.
Mr Alex Okeke said he was registered at 1.30 p.m. after waiting endlessly on Saturday.
“l have no alternative than to ensure that l am captured in the exercise in spite of the initial delays because this document is the only power l have to vote for candidates of my choice,’’ he said.
At the Federal Government College, Onwudiwe Park and Umuabi Street in Uwani, Mrs Chizoba Agazi, Registration Officer 1, said she has registered 22 persons as at 2.00 p.m.
She, however, said the only problem was the five minutes it takes to capture one person’s finger prints.
Mr Ogunlade Dare, another registration officer 1, said the exercise was going on smoothly as he had registered 20 persons between noon and 2.00 p.m.
“If the machines continue to perform without hitch, we will be able to complete the exercise ahead of time,’’ he said.
