SWAN Holds Maiden Retreat In Akure
The National Secretariat of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) is scheduled to hold its maiden Sports Writers Retreat in Akure, the Ondo State capital from January 27 to January 29, 2011. The Theme of the Retreat is: “ Next Decade”
At the Retreat which holds at the Babafunke Ajasin Auditorium, Minisitry of Women Affairs, Akure, very senior sports journalists have been pencilled down to present papers. They include: (1) Ikeddy Isiguzo — Challenges Facing the Nigerian Sports Journalist in the New Decade; (2) Paul Bassey — Who is a Sports Journalist?; (3) Dr. Olaiya Oni — Sports Journalism at the Grassroots Level; (4) Sunnie Ephraim –- The Nigerian Sports Journalists: What Prospects?
His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Mimiko, the Executive Governor of Ondo State is to be honoured with an award of “The Doyen of Sports”, by SWAN at the retreat venue before undertaking projects tour. The governor is also scheduled to host SWAN to a Gala Nite.
According to a release signed by Andrew Abbah, Secretar-General of SWAN, only National Executive, NEC members, state chairmen and secretaries from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Imo, FCT, Benue, Rivers, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, Yobe, Gombe and Adamawa are expected at the occasion while the rest states are expected to send one delegate each.
All the delegates are expected to arrive in Akure on January 27, 2010 and report at the stadium.
SWAN hereby appreciates the Ondo State Government for its unflinching support towards the success of the event.
