Police Recover Weapons In A’Ibom Bush
Police in Akwa Ibom State have recovered a cache of weapon hidden in the bush along Ikot Mbong village in Onna Local Government of Akwa Ibom State.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sani Magayi disclosed this while briefing journalists over the week end.
According to him, the weapons must have been assembled by the hoodlums either for robbery operation or hidden for safety after robbery operation.
He said the recovery followed a tip off by some villagers who went to clear the portion of the bush for cultivation as it is farming season in the area.
The police boss therefore called on indigenes of the state to draw attention of the police whenever they find any weapon hidden in the bush around their neighbourhood or farmland.
The police chief who confirmed that no violent crime had been committed in the area in recent time, however said investigation was still on to unravel who and why those weapons were hidden there.
He listed the weapons to include 5 AK 47, welding host and mask, some pliers and live ammunitions.
The police commissioner used the opportunity to reiterate the resolve of his command to rid the state of criminal elements wherever they may be found, but enjoined the citizens of the state to be prepared to supply information to his men as police are not magicians
About seven armed robbery suspects were paraded to news men together with weapons recovered during their arrest.
It could be recalled that barely a week after assumption of office as Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Magayi on his state-wide familiarization tour with his men ran into an ambush by a gang of bandits and during cross firing the police lost one man while the bandits fled leaving three of the gangsters lifeless.
