Presidential aspirant of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, has vowed that nothing would make him step down for any aspirant ahead the 2011 general elections in the country.

Making his feelings known while addressing the South East zone delegates and other stakeholders of the party in Enugu, the capital of Enugu State, ahead of the party’s primaries, the former Governor of Sokoto State, declared: “As far as I am concerned, I will not step down for anybody.”

Bafarawa, who was accompanied by some of his campaign organization members, including the immediate past Governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Bony Haruna, contended that he has all it takes to take the nation’s dwindling economy to the next level if voted into office as the nation’s number one citizen.

He stated that if given the mandate, he would ensure that all moribund industries in the country are revived with a view to tackling the alarming unemployment rate in the country, which, according to him, had been the major cause of high crime rate in the country.

The ACN presidential aspirant, however, urged members of the party and the entire Nigerian electorate to use their votes wisely this time around, saying that the time has come for the people to say no to bad leaders who had continued to impoverish the masses for about 12 years now in Nigeria”.

According to him, Nigerians, should vote only credible, and tested leaders with track record as himself, insisting that it is only through enthronement of good leaders that the nation could make head way.

Commenting on the recent selection of former Vice President and PDP aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, as the Northern consensus candidate for the 2011 elections by the Alhaji Adamu Ciroma-led committee, Bafarawa, said the exercise was purely for the PDP, hence such arrangement has nothing to do with ACN, which, he said, remains the party to beat in the 2011 polls.

He, however, urged the South East members of ACN to remain resolute, steadfast and committed to the political plat form, adding that they would never regret embracing the party in the end.

On his part, Bony Haruna in his brief speech, said that he decided to identify with his former colleague based on his pedigree, adding that “the man, Bafarawa, remains a tested politician who transformed Sokoto when he piloted the affairs of the state”.

He, therefore, urged people of the south east to pitch their tent with him, saying he, Bafaraw has a lot to offer the nation, including the south east geo-political zone.

Responding, speakers from the five south east states of Anambra, Abia, Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi assured the presidential aspirant of their support, especially being the first to knock at their door in the zone.
