The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) last Wednesday, called on the National Communiction Commission (NCC) to complete the call centers across the country to overcome the challenges of communication in disaster management.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Head, Media and Publicity, NEMA, Mr. Yashau Shuaib and issued to newsmen in Abuja.

It stated that Mr Mohammed Sani-Sidi, the Director-General of NEMA, made the call during his visit to the Executive Vice-Chairman of the NCC, Mr Eugene Juwa.

He noted that,” communication is a vital tool that aids rapid response to distress callers and enhances coordination among the responding agencies and stakeholders for effective networking”.

He said that disaster management faced more challenges especially when there were poor communication systems in a place and that negatively affected the effort of responding agencies.

Responding, Juwa, said that he appreciated the effort of NEMA adding that commission was doing all it could to put the necessary infrastructure in the emergency call centres across the country.

He gave an assurance that the centre’s being constructed would be of a world class with state-of-art  facilities  and equipment.
