Labour Party Promises To Address Workers’ Plight

The Governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Rivers State Reuben Favour says he was ready for the challenges ahead of the April 2011 polls as he pledged to address workers problems in the state.

Reuben who was elected last Saturday to fly the party flag in Rivers State said Labour Party would poise challenges to other parties towards unseating the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He pledged to ensure that the Labour Party (LP) wins atleast two third seats in Rivers State House of Assembly and other elections.

Reuben  maintained that all unions under the umbrella of Nigerian Labour Congress would work for the success of the party, adding, if the people’s vote counts changes and surprises would reveal itself in the April 2011 polls.

He said Labour Party is struggling for political power to enable it alleviate the low poverty level of workers and the masses, stating that steps would be advanced to reposition the country among the country of nations.

He further assured to militate strategies for the equitable distribution of wealth that will involve the Labour unions in the country.

Meanwhile, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) said it announced the Bayelsa State Governorship candidate in Rivers State as a result of insecurity and political violence in Bayelsa State.

Chairman, National Electoral Committee of ACN for Bayelsa State, Hon. Salisu Shaibu said the committee was compelled to come to Port Harcourt to announced the results because of the recent cases of threats and intimidation of political opponents in Bayelsa.

The panel declared Chief Ayakeme Whiskey, a former Commissioner for Housing in the Timipre Sylva led administration.

Whiskey scored 4,800 votes to defeat other aspirants and clinch the party ticket.

Whiskey after being declared winner said he is in the race to rescue Bayelsa State from the current economic woes.
