Federation To Popularise Traditional Sports
In a bid to address the dearth of funds which stalled its activities in 2009, the Traditional Sports Federation of Nigeria (TSFN), says it will aspire to popularise the games.
The sports under the federation are traditional wrestling, ayo, abula, dam be, kokawa, langa wrestling and draught.
TSFN Secretary Femi Ajao told newsmen in Lagos that the federation’s greatest challenge was the lack of funds because many people were unaware of the sports.
Ajao said that TSFN would undertake many awareness creation programmes to popularise them and attract sponsors for its activities.
He said the board would meet before the end of January to deliberate on how to realise this objective and woo back its former sponsors for this year’s activities.
The secretary also said that the TSFN was preparing its officials and athletes for the National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt in June.
He added that there would be training for officials to acquaint them with the current developments in the sport, and urged state associations to ensure they paid their annual dues.
