FAAN To Complete Projects At Airports

The Managing Director of Federal Airport of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Richard Aisuebeogun has assured the determination of the authority to compete all projects left undone at the nations airports this year.

Mr. Aisuebeogun who said this on his assessment of the authority this year stated that the objective of the authority will be to make airports customer-friendly with is activities.

He explained that FAAN as a public sector airport operator whose functions are to develop, maintain and operate airport facilities for safe and efficient handling of aircraft, passengers, cargo and mails, will this year provide facilities for surface transportation within the airports.

According to him, FAAN has embarked on some major airport projects managed by the authority in the period 2009/2010 under review, pointing out that all the projects were undertaken to improve infrastructure at the airports in compliance with ICAO standards that are designed to make airports more customer-friendly apart from being commercially viable.

The FAAN chief executive noted that the ultra-modern toilet facilities inaugurated at the major gateway of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, was part of efforts to improve on airport facilities.

“What you witnessed, which we have inaugurated today is a significant milestone in the airport improvement plan of MMIA, which we started far back in 2008. it is one of the major steps that we have taken to ensure that the users of our facilities, the traveling public get the debt convenience and satisfaction when they use the airport”, he added.

Aisuebeogun thanked the Ministry of Aviation for insisting that FAAN must rehabilitate the existing toilets and make them a world class modern toilet facility convenient for the traveling public that use the airport.

He noted that FAAN will soon undertake another major infrastructure that have been rehabilitated, saying, “many of you were privileged to be in Enugu and you saw how Enugu runway was completely rehabilitated. If you were in Enugu about 12 months ago, you would have known how the state of that airport, particularly the runway was”.

The FAAN boss explained that last year, the authority embarked on the installation of air field lighting system at the Sam Mbakwe International Airport, Owerri, even as work on the project is being intensified to make it one of the best in the country.

Aisuebeogun disclosed plans to improve the welfare of staff, adding that furniture grant and other allowances are being treated as a first line vote by the management.
