Enugu Govt Assures On Water Supply
The Enugu Government has vowed never to compromise its drive to provide potable water to urban and rural, dwellers of the state, Chief of Staff, Government House, Enugu, Mrs Ifeoma Nwobodo, who dropped the hint during a media chat with newsmen in Enugu, said the government was fully committed to providing potable water to the people as water remains one of the indispensable basic needs of life.
The sum ofN2.29 billion, she went on, was budgeted for urban and rural water supply for 2011, that out of this amount, the state Ministry of Water Resources has an allocation of N319.4 .million while the Water Corporation and the Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) got N 1.13 billion and N845. 7 million respectively.
The design for the Greater Adada Regional Water Scheme which is meant to source water from Adada River to support the present water supply to Nsukka town will be completed early in the year to make way for the award of contract, she explained.
On rural water supply, Mrs Nwobodo stated that 12 deep motorised boreholes are to be constructed in 12 Local Government Councils with 48 shallow boreholes going to 30 communities.
On the Housing programme of the state government, the Chief of Staff used the forum to debunk the claim that the houses built so far are for the rich and not for the middle class.
