Defection Of PDP Members Worries Mantu

Ibrahim Mantu, the PDP chairman, Primary Election Committee for House of Representatives and Senate in Imo, has expressed concern over the decamping of many PDP members of other parties.

Mantu, who addressed party members in Owerri last  Friday, attributed the exit of such members to rancour and bitterness that had trailed the party’s congresses and primaries held so far across the nation.

He said that the House of Assembly primaries conducted last week in Imo had caused some of the party members to leave PDP for other political parties.

He explained that it could be dangerous for any political office holder in a party to decamp to another party because such a person might leak the party’s secrets to opponents.

According to him, people are beginning to lose confidence in PDP because of the attitudes of some political office holders.

‘If proper care is not taken, the party might lose the 2011 general election in many states.” Mantu said that for the PDP to continue to be the leading party, the political office holders must learn to do what the people wanted, noting that “politics is a game of numbers, if the people lose confidence in party officials, the party will fall”.

He said that his mission in Imo was to conduct free and fair primaries for the House of Representatives and Senate, assuring fairness to the candidates during the primaries.
