Former Vice President and Presidential aspirant on the plat form of the Ruling Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has cautioned the party delegates in Rivers State to vote a candidate with character and vision in order to unite the country.

Atiku who was speaking to delegates and party supporters at  the Rivers State Secretariat of the PDP in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, said, he decided to reach out to them due to his sympathy and support for the minorities of the nation.

Atiku said his visit to the state was not only to pay homage to the party and its leadership but to also underscore the fact that the state has for the past twelve years helped the PDP to be in power from wards to State level.

“My visit to the state is interactive in nature, therefore I commend the leadership of the party for commitment, hardwork, loyalty and success which has encouraged my fight on the current political development of the country”.

He further explained that as a politicians and astute business man, he had come to the conclusion that the present crop of our leaders lack quality as it used to be in his days and urged his supporters to vote for candidates with legacies.

Continuing, he claimed he had made a lot of political sacrifices for the nation and deserved the support of Nigerians.

“All my life, I have fought against dictatorship beginning from Abacha and Obasanjo and even now”, adding that it could have been better if every aspirant had been allowed to go through the party primaries rather than what was on ground now.

While still appealing to the delegate, he said, “next week when you go to Abuja, dear delegates, tick Atiku”.

The Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi who was represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru while extolling the leadership qualities of Atiku Ababakar, explained to the delegates that the PDP had the best rules in the selection of candidates and urged them to avail themselves of the opportunity at the primaries in Abuja.

The Deputy governor thanked the Presidential aspirant for honouring the leadership of the party in the state by the visit.

He said, “we have heard you, we have seen you and we have listened to your reason, why we should vote for you”, and prayed God to guide him as he moves from state to state across the nation.

Present at the visit were the PDP Chairman in the state, Chief G.U. Ake, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry and former governor of the Central Bank, Prof. Charles Soludo amongst other dignitiaries.
