The Anambra Government has begun the exportation of some agricultural produce to China, the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Chief Godson Ezenagu, has said.

Ezenagu who said this, Thursday in Awka while speaking to newsmen noted that  the state began the exportation of cassava to China in November 2010, adding that 29 containers of the crop were exported between November and December last year.

Ezenagu said 40 containers of cassava were expected to be shipped out of the country in the first quarter of 2011, noting that more attention would be given to rice, yam and potato production.

“We are prepared and have planned to get a better harvest this year while the much needed fertiliser has already arrived to help the farmers,” he said.

Ezenagu said qualified farmers, who applied for the NI billion federal government agricultural loan, would get as much as N500,000 each.

He said the processes for accessing the loan had begun, adding that qualified agricultural cooperative societies could obtain as much as N5 million.

The commissioner said the loan, when finally accessed by farmers, would result in agricultural revolution in the state.
