Enugu State Governor, Barrister Sullivan I. Chime says Nigeria’s standing among the comity of nations will be determined by the outcome of the 2011 general elections.

He stated that how well Nigerian politicians handle the 2011 elections, in terms of making it free and fair, will determine the country’s position at the international level.

Chime expressed the opinion that as a regional leader, Nigeria is expected to lead by example, saying that “any mistake by the country will have wide implications for the continent and the world at large”.

In a New Year message released in Enugu by his Special Adviser, Media, VinMartin Obiora Ilo, Chime also urged Nigerians to take serious the processes leading to the election such as the registration of voters which will start on January 15.

According to him, the onus is on Nigerians to ensure that good leaders are voted into power especially as President Goodluck Jonathan has put all machinery in motion to ensure that every vote counts in the general elections.

While wishing all Nigerians a prosperous New Year, Governor Chime restated the resolve of his government to make Enugu State one of the frontline states in Nigeria in terms of infrastructural development and quality of life.

Realising that the task before the country is enormous, the state chief executive also urged Nigerians to pray for peaceful and successful elections in the New Year, saying that the importance of peace and stability in Nigeria at this point in time cannot be over emphasised.
