‘New Rivers Games Village, Ready Before June’
The Globacom Premiership match in action
Installations of plastic chairs on the terraces and stands at the new games village under construction at the Greater Port Harcourt City in Rivers State have begun.
The plastic chairs which had already been installed at the lawn tennis court, would extend to the swimming pool area, basketball courts and other areas of the stadium as well.
Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who visited the games village, yesterday expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and gave the assurance that the project would be completed before the new date for the National Sports Festival in June 2011.
According to him, the swimming pool, the tennis court and basketball courts were almost ready, just as contractors were installing plastic chairs on the terraces and stands in some other areas of the stadium.
The governor hinted that the road to the main entrance of the games village which is under construction, would be named after Joseph Yobo, an International Football Star and captain of the Super Eagles
Governor Amaechi said another major access way to the games village was the six lane road under construction from the East-West Road axis, adding that the pace of work at the games village had improved compared to what it was last week.
