‘Don’t disenfranchise Eligible Voters’

The Deputy Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Dumnamene Deekor has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address the myriads challenges associated with DDC Machine in the on-going voters registration exercise in other not to disenfranchised eligible Nigerians.

Hon. Deekor stated this Tuesday, after he registered at Bekeebekoro Unit 9, Ward 9 in Khana local Government of the state expressed satisfaction that Nigerians are beginning to be conscious of the exercise and are coming out to register.

The lawmaker who is representing Khana Constituency 11 in the State House of Assembly, said the call becomes imperative following the public out cry on the low space of the DDC machine to capture people across various registration units in the country.

He urged INEC to ensure that they produce a credible votes register for April general election explaining that the success of the election will depend on the credibility of the voters register.

The lawmaker however said the problem of poor capture as DDC machine slow pace was a nation wide, assuring that he is optimistic that the commission is capable of overcoming the various challenges confronting the exercise before the end of the exercise.

He promised to provide power packs to assist the officials to effectively carry out their responsibility in ensuring that the people of the area are registered.

He also called on the people of his constituency and indeed the Ogoni people to ensure that they participate actively in the on going registration exercise adding that benefiting from the state government health and education services would depend on having the voters card.

The number two state lawmaker told the people to reciprocate the government gesture by ensuring that they register as well as their children between the ages of eighteen years and above.

The lawmaker later monitored the exercise in all the registration units, within Khana constituency 11.

Responding, the INEC Registration Supervisor in the area, Mrs Beatrice Mpi  commended the lawmaker for the gesture assuring that challenges would be a thing of the past as it is being addressed by the commission.
