Use Christmas To Mend Fences, Amaechi Urges
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has told Christians in the state to use this Christmas period as a time to make peace with their next door neighbours.
In his Christmas message to the state, Governor Amaechi said, “as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, let it also serve as a signal for us to mend fences by making peace with our immediate neighbours whom we may have had issues with in the past, and work towards living a friendlier communal life, and building a stronger society.
He emphasised that as “Christ’s birth brought salvation to the world, we, working together as a state can make our families and communities become friendlier, happier and more habitable, when we make peace with one another always”.
In his words, “Christ taught the world to love, he loved his flock endlessly” adding, “let celebrate him by sharing love, and do away with anything that would not add value to our family, home and state”.
He called for tolerance of one another’s opinions and views, particularly as we approach the coming elections in Nigeria, adding, it is important that the atmosphere remains calm and peaceful which, according to him, could be achieved if we work together as good neighbours.
While congratulating Christians during this year’s Christmas, Amaechi solicited for journey rnercies and God’s protection for those travelling and reminded them to bear in mind that they owe the nation the civic duty of registering when the voters registration window opens early next year.
