Traditional Rulers Harp On Credible Elections

As the 2001 general elections in Nigeria approaches, the Rumuji Council of Chiefs (RCC) in Emohua Local Government Area (EMOLGA), Rivers State has called for a hitch free election devoid of violence and electoral malpractices in order to usher in a credible election which would allow the wishes of the electorates to prevail in the new democratic dispensation.

   The chairman, Rumuji Council of Chiefs, Obed Ovodowhuo Ekwueme made the call on behalf of the traditional rulers at its second annual general meeting last Sunday. He called on people of the community to ensure that they are registered during the forthcoming voters registration exercise, stressing that registration of eligible voters is the bedrock of any credible election and must not be toyed with.

Eze Ekwueme lauded the various development projects and programmes of the present administration both at the state and local government levels, urged political leaders in the state to rededicate their lives to God this new year to usher in more blessings and people oriented projects. According to him, to whom much is given, much is also expected.

The chairman said that Rumuji town which was denied development projects in the past due to disunity, selfish interests and communal crisis, are now happy since the community rededicated it self to God at the beginning of his administration two years ago.
