The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN), Rivers State chapter, has charged the newly elected executive of the Port Harcourt Club 1928, to bring their wealth of experience to bear in administering the affairs of the club.

Secretary of the Rivers SWAN, Olalekan Ige, who made the call in a press release said that the maintenance and sustainenance of the essence of the club would be worthwhile especially as the club has been short listed as one of the likely venues for the forth coming National Sports Festival to be hosted by Rivers State come February, 2011.

According to the statement, the emergence of the new executive is an opportunity for them to contribute their quota to the upliftment of Port Harcourt club 1928, regard as one of the most respected in the federation.

The Rivers SWAN expressed optimism that the new executive would sustain the partnership existing between the club and the association, especially in the area of sports development.

The statement also congratulated two former Nigerian internationals, Finidi George and Mike Emenalo over their recent appointments in two European Football clubs.

The state SWAN found the appointment exciting, Finidi George having began his football career with Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt before playing for the national team.

“It is gratifying to note that both Finidi George and Mike Emenalo were part of the Super Eagles team that shone brightly at the U.S.A 1994 World Cup where Eagles were voted the second best most entertaining team,” the statement said.

Rivers SWAN thus urged the duo to be good ambassadors of Nigeria and work assiduously to open doors for many Nigerian ex-Internationals.

It would be recalled that Finidi got an appointment with his former club, Real Betis of Spain, while Mike Emenalo was appointed as first team assistant of chelsea.
