Shun Electoral Misconduct, CAN Urges Politicians
The Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Ebonyi chapter, Rev. Emmanuel Nshii has advised Nigerians, especially the leaders, to uphold the rule of law and shun electoral misconduct in the 2011 general elections.
He made the call in sermon on during a Christmas Carol Day celebration in Abakaliki, Wednesday.
The occasion featured guest choirs, including the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Enugu and others from different Christian denominations across the state.
Nshii, whose message focussed on the need for thanksgiving, called on Christians to cultivate the attitude of praises and thanksgiving to God.
“Praises to God will engender peace and unity in the country, in spite of ethno-religious disturbances occasionally witnessed in some parts of the country,” he said.
Governor Martin Elechi noted that the state chapter of CAN had contributed immensely to the success of his administration through its prayers and intervention on burning issues. Represented by the Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Augustine Nwankwegu, Elechi assured the people that the government would not relent in its efforts to resolve the strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities in the state.
He, however, dismissed the views in some quarters that government was not sensitive to the plight of the students.
He commended the FRCN choir and others for their impressive performance.
In a competition, Saint Mark’s Catholic Church Choir Oriuzor, in Ezza-North local government area emerged winner.
