Ohakim Extols Virtues Of Family Integrity In Marriage
The need for couples to be mindful of the integrity of their families were extolled at the traditional marriage of Mr. Tonma Secondus, son of the National Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Prince Uche Secondus to Dr (Miss) Chioma Ibe at Umuozu in Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State gave this injunction Saturday at the marriage ceremony according to Igbo customs and rites also attended by the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru and his wife Dr. Mina Ikuru.
Chief Ohakim advised the couples to give themselves wholly and totally to each other, stating that it is necessary for people to understand that human life passes through three stages, birth, marriage and death, and each of these stages should be handled with care.
Chief Ohakim extolled the virtues of the bride as good, humbled and well brought up, and charged the groom to take care of her in line with his family’s status, stressing that those present at the ceremony were mere witnesses, as himself and the wife would be the ones to build their home.
He charged the couple to ensure that their marital problems were amicably discussed and settled in-house, while wishing them a blissful marriage.
Highlights of the occasion include the traditional wine carrying search for the groom by the bride, cutting of the traditional marriage cake and cultural displays by groups from Andoni and Okrika Local Government Areas of Rivers State which entertained guests.
Others who witnessed the marriage were the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Engr. Ada Okwonu, Senator Osita Izunasor representing Isiala Mbano in the Senate, Deputy National Legal Adviser of PDP, Hon. Mbakwe Obi, Secretary to the Imo State Government, Chief Cusmos Iwu, Rivers State Commissioners for Budget and Planning, Mr. Gogo Levi Charles, and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, among others.
