NUPENG Suspends Strike In A’Ibom

The strike embarked upon by the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) in Akwa – Ibom State to protest the sacking of its members by oil firms operating in the state was suspended on Wednesday.

Disclosing this to newsmen at Eket immediately after the suspension of the industrial dispute, the NUPENG branch Chairman in Akwa – Ibom State, Nko Hassan said that workers in the oil companies operating in the state resumed work in all the locations blocked by the workers while the strike lasted in the state.

The NUPENG boss further said that the management of oil establishments in the state have assured the Union that they would not lay-off indigenous oil workers without consulting the Union.

Said he “all Oil companies operating oil fields have been assuring that they would henceforth not lay-off indigenous oil workers without consulting the Union.

The Union leader used the opportunity to commend the members for their patience and peaceful disposition throughout the period of the strike in the state.

In the same vein, he lauded the wisdom of the management of the oil firms to show understanding with the Union as praised stakeholders in the oil sector for intervening in the industrial dispute.
