The National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, says there would be no automatic ticket for any candidate in the forthcoming general elections next year.

Reacting to some newspaper reports alleging that there would be automatic tickets for aspiring members of the National Assembly, Dr Nwodo said such reports were false and misleading.

Speaking through his Media Assistant, Ike Abonyi, the PDP National Chairman dispelled such media reports since they are capable of sowing the seed of discord amongst party faithfuls, especially aspirants who have purchased nomination forms.

He stated that even women aspirants who had requested for automatic tickets were not given as the National Chairman only assured them of plans by the National Working Committee (NWC) to deliberate on the matter.

According to him, Dr Nwodo only assured the women aspirants of monetary support for those who would eventually pick the party’s ticket after the National Executive Committee had endorsed it.

The PDP chairman’s media aide further told the female aspirants that the party would support the continuity of those women members of parliament who are performing and are endorsed in their constituencies.

On his reform policies for the party, Dr Nwodo, according to Abonyi, had helped to engender confidence of members which has led to massive declaration by members to contest in the forthcoming elections.

The media spokesman, therefore, urged members, especially aspirants to disregard such newspaper publications and continue with their campaigns.

Nwodo reiterated the position of the NWC that the party leadership under his watch would foster internal democracy by providing level playing ground for all aspirants, pointing out that that was the only way to strengthen democracy and ensure harmony in the party.
