Idama Dev Workshop Empowers Women
No fewer than 40 women from Idama Community in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State participated in a two-day intensive capacity building workshop, organised by the Idama Regional Development Council (RDC) at the Grand Maticito Hotel, Port Harcourt. Chairman, Idama RDC, Innocent Karibo, who spoke with The Tide Energy correspondent, at the event, said the programme was intended to promote ownership of the community engagement model, the Global Memorandum of Understanding, GMOU in the area.
As part of recommendations at the recently concluded RDC best practices workshop organised by Chevron in Port Harcourt, Karibo said; “issues of gender sensitivity would be given due consideration in the scheme of things because women has great potentials for development”.
He called on women in the area to avail themselves of contract opportunities by registering as corporative and bid for available contracts.
He also implored the participants to take advantage of the workshop to improve their entrepreneurial skills, as fund would be provided for them to commence small business enterprises to improve their economic wellbeing.
In his remark, the Amayanabo of Idama, HRH, Kingdom Dateme described the two-day skills empowerment workshop as a bold step towards advancing the economic growth of Idama.
The Idama Monarch charged the Participants to ensure that basic entrepreneurial skills acquired during the training are duly put into practice.
He also lauded the cordial relationship between Chevron and Idama Community, and re-interaled the commitment of the people of Idama to peaceful co-existence and development.
Also speaking , Mr . Brikinn Esimaje, Co-ordinator, Community Engagement for Eastern Operation of Chevron, commanded the Idama RDC over the initiatives.
He said, Chevron was impressed over the adroit manner in which the Idama RDC was using available fund for development initiatives in the area.
Esimaje added that, the capacity workshop was an indication, that Idama places importance on women development, and commended the people of Idama for their exemplary conduct.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr Awala George, thanked the RDC and Chevron for providing women with the opportunities of enhancing, their entrepreneurial skills and business developing potentials. She assured that the knowledge acquired from the two day training will be fully utilised.
