The Rivers State Head of Service, HOS, Mrs Esther Anucha has called on labour unions in the State to maintain the harmonious relationship existing between labour and the state government.

Mrs Anucha stated this on Wednesday when members of the Caretaker Committee of the Rivers State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council paid her a visit in her office in Port Harcourt.

The Head of Service who commended them for conducting a peaceful transition, expressed her support  and preparedness to work with them. She told them to be up and doing, considering the enormous work they have at hand.

Congratulating them on their appointment, Mrs Anucha advised the committee to run the Union with openness, sincerity and accountability and charged them to address the needs of the civil servants even as she reminded the committee to endeavour to organise a peaceful election in shortest possible time.

Earlier, the Chairman of the caretaker committee of the council, Mr. Jonas Okere said that they were in the HOS’ office to inform her of the inauguration of a caretaker committee to handle the affairs of the Union following the expiration of the tenure of the former Executive.

He thanked the Head of Service for her motherly support to labour unions and Civil Servants, and pledged to continue to work harmoniously with her and the state government in order to actualise the laudable developmental programmes going on in the state.

The state’s Joint Public Service Negotiating Council is made up of eight Labour Unions in the state public service.
