FRSC Cautions Convoy Drivers
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has advised convoy drivers to show caution and respect other road users.
The Unit Commander of FRSC at the 9th Mile Corner, Enugu, Mr Anyebe Okpe, gave the piece of advice on Monday, in an interview with newsmen in Enugu.
Okpe advised the drivers and their employers to respect other road users and obey traffic rules.
“Conyoy drivers are not above the law, people should not over-speed,” he said.
Okpe also advised motorists to avoid acts that could cause accidents and noted that the roads were getting busier because of movement during the festive period.
“Any motorist who obstructs free flow of traffic should know that he is blocking himself,” he said.
The official gave the advice against the background of an incident on Monday morning on the Awka/Enugu highway when drivers in the motorcade of a notable Nigerian pushed other motorists out of the way.
The motorcade, which consisted of assorted high profile vehicles, including pickup vans, SUVs, Roll Royce, among others, took over the road between 7.35 a.m and 8.45a.m
The police escort and other security men ensured that no vehicle overtook them in spite of the fact that they drove slowly.
