Handing over the baton of ABSU leadership to his successor, Professor Chibuzor Ogbuagu, Mkpa said the crisis he had with the Alumni Association of the university which even led him being dragged to the EFCC as well as the quarrel between the institution and host community, which was fall out of students’ disturbance in early 2009.
That disturbance led to the death of an indigene of Uturu which further resulted in a reprisal attack by the community that claimed the lives of some students.
“The last two years of my administration were turbulent. It made me know there are demons in human clothing as well as traitors,” Mkpa said, adding that most of his achievements were recorded within the first three years of his tenure.
Commending the staff for their dedication, the former VC noted that they were “very supportive to me,” adding that he would want the staff to be a lot more supportive to his successor.”
The students leader in his remarks told the new VC that he was stepping into “ big shoes because Mkpa related well with students as if he were our colleagues.”
They added that Ogbuagu’s “first challenge is this ongoing strike. I believe he has his own vision and when we come back we will stay and watch him perform.”
