ESUT’s Poor Condition Worries Ex-Gov
Former governor of old Anambra State and founder, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Enugu, Chief Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, has expressed total disappointment over the current poor condition of the institution.
Chief Nwobodo who made his feelings known Wednesday while speaking to newsmen in Enugu shortly after the end of activities marking the celebration of the 30 years anniversary of the Faculty of Engineering of the university, in Enugu, regretted that authorities of the institution had not lived up to the expectations of the founding fathers and the people of the state in general.
According to him, ESUT was trailing behind other state government owned universities in the country, especially in the areas of infrastructural development, manpower development, accommodation, among others, and urged the authorities of the university to wake up to the task of repositioning the institution for good.
Nwobodo however advised students now languishing at home over ASUU strike to always shun social vices such as cultism, robbery, examination malpractices, among others, reasoning that they were capable of ruining their future careers.
According to him, commitment to academic pursuit would go a long way in making them good future leaders, pointing out that with that , the sky would be their limit in the near future.
Also in a brief chat with journalists later, an alumni of the institution and Environmental Adviser to the NNPC, Abuja, Engr Ikenna Okonkwo, described the 30 years anniversary celebration of the Faculty of Engineering of the University as a celebration of excellence, maintaining that the event was a huge success, having been graced by many distinguished Nigerians.
Okonkwo, said that since inception, the Faculty of Engineering of the University had turned out over 10,000 engineers, “who are now contributing immensely to the development of the economy of Nigeria”.
