The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has finally established an office in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, fourteen years after the creation of the state.

Controller of Operations DPR, Yenagoa Office, Dr. Duncan Eradiri who disclosed this to newsmen said residents of the state may now heave a sigh of relief in the purchase of petroleum products with the establishment of the DPR office in the state.

He advised members of the public to report filling stations that sell above the government approved pump price of N65 to the DPR office promising that appropriate actions would be taken against defaulters.

“DPR will punish defaulters who do not comply with the laid down rules and regulations governing the oil industry, the down stream in particular  where filling stations or retail outlets are operational,” he said.

“I also want the marketers to know that DPR is operational in the state and they do not have go to Port Harcourt for their applications, processing of licenses, or permits. The office is here and they are supposed to come to the office for appropriate information and applications that they require from time to time,” he explained.

The operations controller also advised marketers to adhere strictly to government approved pump price stressing that anybody selling above N65 per litre contravanes government laid down rules and regulations.

He disclosed that his office will meet with all marketers including the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) mega stations to address perceived grey areas.

Eradiri commended the Bayelsa State government and the Director of the DPR, Engr Williams Obaje, for facilitating the establishment of the DPR office in the state.
