Council Boss Bags OPA Excellence Award
The Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Council, Hon. Maclean Uranta, has been honoured with an award of Excellence in Governance and Development of communities in Opobo Kingdom.
The award, which is the first of its kind to be received by a serving council chairman in Opobo/Nkoro local government was presented to Uranta by the Opobo Progressive Association (OPA) in Lagos.
Speaking to correspondents at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa on his arrival after receiving the award, Hon. Uranta recounted his development strides in the local government area, which informed the award by Opobo indigenes residing in Lagos.
According to him; “ I have been able to provide good drinking water, electricity supply, roads and bridge in communities across the local government area as well as build a 46-room three –storey hotel in Opobo town”, giving the cost of the hotel at N500 million when completed.
The council chairman said he was personally convinced that he merited the award hence he accepted it judging by what he has done in his local government area.
His words: “I was not only given an award but honoured by Opobo indigenes residing in Lagos because they said I have tried as a chairman to have brought a lot of development into Opobo Kingdom. The day was one of my happiest days in life because since the creation of the local government, no chairman has been so honoured while in office”.
Uranta, who said he was overwhelmed by the honour which as he puts it, is a catalyst and challenge for him to do more for his people and expressed gratitude to the OPA in Lagos for the honour done him.
He used the opportunity to thank Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for sandfilling and reclaiming a vast land for development in Opobo town and charged Opobo indigenes in Lagos to be good ambassadors of not only their town but also Rivers State.
