Christmas: Beyond The Tables And Fashion

Christmas; the birth of Jesus Christ, and 25th December, a day set aside to commemorate it, could not have made so much impact on a religiously heterogeneous world like ours but for the ingenuity of those who tactfully chose the date to align with the end of the calendar year.

Hence those who ordinarily would have expressed an indifferent position are rather excited at the thought of having outlived the existing year. The joy of triumphantly stepping into a new year no doubt is worth celebrating.

This therefore accounts for the cluster of activities and the euphoria that the season is greeted with by all and sundry.

The declaration of public holidays across the globe at this period of the year, gives it a global recognition and acceptance and as well makes its celebration more grandiose than it would have ordinarily been with just one day left to herald the birth of Jesus Christ, the atmosphere is already charged up.

The major roads and markets in known towns and cities have once again become so congested with people and vehicular movements, and the rush to meet-up, is unimaginable.

Down the family line it is same congestion of thoughts, opinions and actions, members also want to meet up.

Different associations and professional bodies are not left out in this mad rush of the time, all in the spirit of the Christmas.

Everybody wants to look good, appear adorable and eat heavily at Christmas and this singular desire to remain adorable is the reason for the congestion of actions across the globe. To be able to celebrate Christmas in a grand style, societal vices are increasing male youths are taking to robbery and kidnapping, while the female hawk their bodies for money and wives antagonise their husbands hence promoting nagging in the home what a great deviation from the real? This is nothing short of celebrating for all the wrong reasons. Knowing therefore, what exactly is the reason for the Xmas will no doubt chart a better course on how we go about this “business” called Christmas.

The home front therefore must exploit the opportunity provided by the Xmas to chart a way forward for members.

The coming together of family members to eat at the family table reminds us of the importance of unity and communism in the home, the need to mend told fences and ensure a harmonious relationship which eventually enthrones peace and development even beyond the home level.

The Christmas provides an avenue and opportunity to unwind, after subjecting the body to hard work all through the year.

A little relaxation and recreation, will in no small measure soothe the nerves and bones and prepare them ready for a more active work at the beginning of the new year instead of starting a new year with an already stressed-up-life.

It is for this reason that series of life-reactivating programmes are lined up at this season so that you can participate in one.

Acquaintances, both old and new that would add meaning to your life could also be made at Christmas.

However, Christmas parades more of spiritual connotation than physical. It is just that the later compliments the former and to actually accept and be part of the Xmas is to eschew all forms of vices and embrace morality.
