SWAN Clears 35 As Full, Associate Members
The national secretariat of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has given provisional clearance to thirty-five of its members in Rivers State as full and associate members respectively.
This was contained in a statement signed by the secretary of SWAN, Rivers State branch after a congress meeting of the association last Tuesday.
The statement explained that 22 members were given full membership status, while 13 others were considered as associate members.
It said the provisional clearance was necessary following the expiration of the two week grace period given to members to formalise their registration.
Meanwhile, the national secretariat of the body has warned members to steer clear from a group known as league of sports writers operating in Rivers State describing it as “unregistered and unrecognised.”
SWAN Head of Information and Strategy, Alloy Chukwuemeka said in a statement made available to Tidesports that the only authentic sports writing body in the state is the one led by Mr. Honour Sirawoo.
Chukwuemeka warned perpetrators of the unholy act to desist as the development has been reported to the police and other stakeholders in sports and media.
The statement added that the South South Zonal Vice President has been directed to liaise with the Rivers State NUJ to investigate those involved.
