Disclosing this to The Tide correspondent at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Chief Ikanya said the new fire service stations would be completed and operational between December and January.

The commissioner hinted that the ministry is doing everything possible to update the equipment of the stations while plans were on to procure new ones, adding that more firemen would be employed to beef up the workforce in the various service stations.

According to him, about 80 fire incidents were recorded in the last quarter of this year and that by December when the report for the current quarter would be compiled, his office would be able to compare the total number of fire occurrences this year with those of last year.

On the issue of Bakassi returnees of Rivers State extraction, the Special Duties Commissioner noted that the houses balloted for them in Cross River State had been taken and re-allocated to returnees of Cross River State, pointing out that all attempts to recover the houses had failed.
