Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom has said in Uyo, that there is no vacancy in the Government House for other governorship aspirants in the state.

Akpabio made the assertion at a rally organised by the people of Akwa North East Senatorial District in support of his second term ambition in 2011, last Monday.

The governor, who enumerated his achievements in the last three years to include the building of an e-library, a hospital, flyover bridges and dual carriage ways in Uyo, promised to do more in his second term.

“We are turning Uyo from a local government area headquarters to a metropolis. I want to assure that what is happening in Akwa Ibom will be replicated in Nigeria,” Akpabio said.

He said his administration had appointed the Secretary to the State Government, Commissioner for Finance and that of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs from Uyo Senatorial District, also known as Akwa Ibom North East.

Akpabio said he had also appointed 25 personal assistants from the senatorial district, adding that he would do more in 2011.

Speaking at the rally, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Umana Umana, said the rally was organised to debunk the rumour that the governor did not have the support of Uyo senatorial district.

“This is the rally of all rallies, this has put to an end to the insinuations that the governor does not have the support of  Uyo people,” Umana said.

In his speech, the chairman of the planning committee of the rally, Chief Sunny Udoh, described the governor’s achievement within the last three years as uncommon.

He thanked the governor for appointing people from the senatorial district to key positions in government and pledged the support of the people for his second term ambition.
