The indefinite Strike billed to commence yesterday by the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) chapter in the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt to press home its demands for implementation of new salary structure could not afterall took-off.
This followed the shiffting of the industrial action to unknown date next week by the executive of NASU in the institution.
An authoritative source close to NASU Secretariat in the University revealed that the sudden change of Mind by NASU executive over commencenment of the planned industrial dispute yesterday was due to alleged series of meetings and representations made by the authorities of the University to avert crippling of administrative activities in the institution in the event of the strike.
The Tide further gathered that the action of NASU executive was not unconnected with the state government’s moves in the past days towards Peaceful resolution of the industial crisis now rocking the premier University of Science and Technology in the country.
Confirming shifting of the strike to next week in a telephone interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt yesterday, the chairman of NASU in the University, comrade Chuku Ebenezer said the action was for obvious reasons.
