Malaria Prevention: Rivers Declares Fight Against Mosquitoes
In continuation of its quest to eliminate malaria in Rivers State, the state government has commenced another phase of the fight by targeting the larva of the mosquito that causes the ailment.
This was disclosed on Friday, by Mrs Daba Tyger, the Role Back Malaria Focal Person in Port Harcourt Local Government Area during a zonal sensitization meeting on malaria prevention strategies at the City Council Hall, Port Harcourt.
Mrs Tyger explained that currently, various tests are being carried out to identify the types of mosquitoes before disinfecting the state of the mosquito larva via a process called bioliviciding.
On her part, Mrs Christiana Chuku, the Coordinator of the Programme and Advocacy Communication Social Mobilization Officer under the Malaria Unit of the state ministry of health, explained further the importance of first identifying the various types of mosquito in the state.
“It is after the mosquito , or mosquitoes causing malaria have been identified that eliminating them can conveniently take place”, she said.
Mrs Chuku stated that the sentitization meeting, which is geared towards empowering participants was organized simultaneously in seven zones across the state.
Organized by the malaria unit of the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Friday’s meeting at the City Council hall was for Heads of Secondary and Primary Schools in Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor and Oyigbo local government areas.
