Group Partners Govt On Health Policy Reforms
The Health Reform Foundation of Nigeria (HERFON) has inaugurated a 9-man committee to sustain health sector reform in Rivers State.
The inauguration, which took place recently in HERFON’s office, Port Harcourt during the reactivation of the Health Sector Reform (HSR) Coalition group of Rivers State, saw Dr Adah Patrick being appointed chairman of the Coalition.
Aminadokari A.L, Nahgwa Ogbini, Isaac Wali and Irene Ahiarakwe were appointed vice chairman, secretary, assistant secretary and treasurer respectively.
Also appointed were Tambari Msan, Stan Aneke, Dokubo Sogbeba and Rev. Sister Patricia Ndinwa, who filled the positions of Financial Secretary, Auditor, Public Relations Officer, and spiritual Director respectively.
In his post-appointment speech, Dr Adah thanked participants at the occasion, while also charging them to be dedicated and support the growth of the coalition in order to promote the health agenda in the state.
At the end of the reactivation exercise, participants unanimously formed the HSR coalition body and christened it Rivers State Health Reform Coalition (RIVCON).
The coalition is geared towards strengthening HSR efforts, solely to contribute to the attainment of health-related in accordance with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) policies by 2015.
In his presentation, Mr. Nwankwo Ekene Innocent, the Advocacy and Communication Officer of HERFON stated that the reasons for the formation of a coalition was to create demand for HSR in each state, to sustain the on-going HSR actions beyond the current administration and to improve the healthcare delivery services and health status of Nigerians.
Others according to him, include to mobilize communities to demand for better health services and to advocate for HSR as a public good.
Dr. Innocent, however, urged participants to take the activities of the coalition serious in a bid to better the lives of the citizenry.
