Five Abia Communities Get Transformers
To boost electricity supply in rural areas, two federal lawmakers from Abia State have donated transformers to five communities in their constituencies.
While Chief Chinenye Ike, representing Isiala Ngwa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, donated four transformers to four communities, including Abayi Isingwa, Mbutu Ukwu, Umuololo Ntigha and Umuekene Amaise, while Rt. Hon Arua Arunsi, representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, donated a 300KVA transformer to Okon-Aku Ohafia.
Three of the communities in Ngwa received one 300KVA transformers each while the fourth got 500KVA transformer.
Handing over the transformers to the benefiting communities at his Osusu country home, Chief Ike said his priority was to ensure that every community in his constituency was electrified during his tenure as electricity was very crucial to the socio-economic growth of the area.
At Ohafia, Prince Arua Arunsi, who recently won the legal battle to represent the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, charged the people of Okon-Aku to ensure that the transformer was not vandalized and promised to pay for its installation.
He said the donation marked the beginning of new things to come, adding that he would give his constituents a new lease of life.
Responding, a community leader in Okon-Aku, Chief J. Udensi, and the President of Okon-Aku Development Union, Women’s wing, Mrs. Florence Ige, expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for remembering their community.
Also, a former chairman of Ohafia local government area, Chief Uche Ogboso, commended Arunsi for the gesture.
The lawmakers- Ike and Arunsi, as well as Ogboso, enjoined their constituents to participate actively in the forthcoming voter registration while the people assured them of their support in the 2011 general elections.
