Enugu Wants Youths To Embrace Entrepreneurship
Enugu Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Matthew Idu, has called on youths to embrace entrepreneurship as a veritable option to tackle unemployment. Idu said this last Wednesday in Enugu at a one-day Undergraduate Business Conference organised by Withworth Academy.
The commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Youths and Sports, Mr Godwin Nwodo, said youths should use their initiatives rather than depend on government for employment.
Anambra Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mrs Chinwe Anowai, in her speech called on youths to imbibe a producer spirit rather than consumer spirit.
She described youths as veritable agents of social change and urged them to take advantage of the immense potentials available in the country.
“ Today, entrepreneurship will help you get better equipped in order for you to move the nation forward,’’ Anowai said.
Mr Obinna Etele, founder of the business conference, said the aim of the conference was to find solutions to the unemployment situation in the country.
“We decided to embark on this conference to better inform our youths to have the mindset that they can move the nation forward by being entrepreneurs,’’ he said.
The Chief Executive Officer of Compass Consult, Mrs Tokunbo Chiedu, said entrepreneurship should be encouraged in order to reduce unemployment in the country.
More than 2,000 undergraduates from various tertiary institutions attended the conference.
Miss Nkemkamma Nwobu, a student of Enugu State University of Technology, said the conference gave her the mindset of becoming an entrepreneur in future.
“Today, this conference has given me a different mindset. I will no longer depend on white collar job to make a living in future,’’ she said.
Mr Ikechukwu Onoh, a student of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, said the conference had encouraged him to work toward being an employer of labour.
