Delta Partners Firm On Environmentally-Friendly Technologies
The Delta State Government is partnering with General Electric Energy Company, a United States-based company, to build environmentally-friendly technologies in the state.
Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan made the announcement in Asaba on Friday when he hosted some members of the company’s management, led by its African Regional President, Mr Jay Wileman.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Sunny Ogefere, quoted Uduaghan as saying that the state was also interested in the eco-imagination programmes of the company, because of its antecedents in the US power and energy sector.
“The state is keen in partnering with the company because its programmes are environmentally friendly and will help develop the area.
“We are very conscious of our environment as a state, and we are ready to key into any programme or develop any strategy that will enable us to solve our environmental challenges,” he added.
Uduaghan said the areas of intervention included the energy sector, agriculture, waste management and water distribution network.
“Right now, we are consuming a lot of fuel in running generators and it pollutes and damages the environment. Every technology we are using now is expensive,” he said.
Wileman told the governor that the company was a global technological firm involved in technology and treatment facilities in the power, water and agricultural sectors as well as waste management.
“General Electric Energy is a technological company. We believe in globalisation and investment, and have been in operation in Africa for more than 100 years,” he added.
