Worried over the high rate of robbery and rape along the Gokana/Bolo Road, the people of Bolo Community have called on the Rivers State Government to provide more security patrols and tar the route in order to reduce the menace.

They made the call during the visit of the state governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi to the community last Tuesday to unveil a concrete road with drainage as part of the constituency project in the area.

A youth leader speaking on behalf of the youth groups in the area, Mr. Richard Williams said the road linking the community to Gokana harbours lots of criminals who rape girls and rob travellers along the route.

Mr. Williams also flaked the contractor handling the construction of the Bolo bridge for being slow noting that work done so far is not commensurate with the money paid by the government.

The youth leader however stressed that the Bolo bridge is of historic importance to the people and therefore urged the government to prevail on the contractor to speedup work on the project.

Earlier on, chairman of Ogu/Bolo Council of Chiefs, Chief Marshall Oforibokakake appealed to the state government to complete the Ogu/Eteo road. He lauded the governor for revitalising the Bolo bridge project after it was many times abandoned by contractors.

Chief Oforibo Kakake  also commended the lawmaker representing the area, Hon. Maureen Tamuo for her exemplary leadership and zeal in transforming her constituency.

The chairman pleaded on the government to always include the area in  its development plans, as the people felt cut-off due to their riverine terrain.

In the same vein, chairman of Bolo Council of Chiefs, Chief Ayomadiki Ogbolodon commended the government for embarking on the bridge project, which according to him would open up the ancient kingdom.

The Bolo chiefs chairman also challenged government to ensure early completion of the bridge construction since the project would link them with their neighbouring communities.

Chief Ogbolodo praised Hon. Tamuno for attracting development projects and pledged the total support of the community in ensuring that she succeeds in her programmes.
