ANPP Expresses Worry Over Insecurity

The National Chairman, All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, said in Umuahia that the party was worried over the prevailing insecurity of lives and properties in the country.

Onu said this while briefing newsmen as part of activities to mark his one-day working visit to Abia.

He said that most of the incidence of kidnapping that seemed to have taken root in the Niger Delta appeared to be politically motivated as top politicians and their relations had been the targets.

Onu said that the ANPP had had its fair share of that ugly trend following the kidnap of the wife of its governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom and the North East Chairman of the party.

“The ANPP does not believe in violence. If someone is interested in serving the people why would such a person take to killing or endangering the lives of the people,” he said.

He called on politicians to forge a common front to clamp down on the menace, stressing that such evil should not be allowed to take root in Nigerian politics.

“We call on the people of Abia to look around and select a leader who will put the interest of the people first,” he said.

Onu, who was the first executive governor of old Abia, said that the state had the potential to be great again if its leaders would rise above mediocrity and personal interests and engender good governance.

“The 22 months I served as governor of the state witnessed massive developmental strides and the ANPP is set to present to the people a candidate who would replicate those good times once again,” he said.

He said that it was during his time as governor that the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu were established and also secured the establishment of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

“I feel happy with my achievements during this time, particularly with the recovery of the Abia State University, which was then jointly owned by Imo and Abia arising from the creation of the later.

“The new ANPP will be seen to do fairly and justly. Our influence as party leaders will only be used to win elections and not to interfere in the administration of states and others,” Onu said.
