As part of preparation ahead the voter’s registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Ekpeye Traditional Rulers Council has constituted a special mobilisation committee to sensitise the people.

Inaugurating the committee last weekend at Ahoada in Ahoada East Local Government Area, Eze Ekpeye Logbo II HRM Eze Robinson O. Robinson stressed the need for all people in the area to fully participate in the exercise ahead 2011 elections.

For the people to make a positive change, he said they must participate in deciding those that would emerge in next year’s elections, adding that the time has come for them to come out enmasse to register their names.

The Ekpeye monarch blamed the dwindling voting strength on the non-challant attitude of the political class, whose attitude he noted discourages the people from participating in such exercise in the past.

He appealed to community heads, to mobilise their subjects, while calling on the politicians and opinion leaders to ensure a hitch-free registration exercise in the area whenever it commences.

The traditional ruler warned that those who fail to register may be denied rights to enroll their children in the free school and medical health schemes in the area.

In his remarks, chairman of the Ekpeye Chiefs/Traditional Rulers Council, Chief D.S. Ikpe stressed the need to constitute a committee to oversee the exercise in Ekpeyeland.

Present at the forum are Chief Abboth Ogbobula, HRH A.M. Okpokiri HRH Ihua Maduenyi, Chief Joshua Eyiba and Chief Dickson Odoyi, who are called for the formation of a central committee.
