Total Holds Open Day Forum For Students
As part of its policy of promoting education and sustainable development of youths in its operational areas and the nation at large, Total Exploration & Production Nigeria Limited, has organized the 2010 edition of Open Day Forum for secondary school students.
The event, which held last Saturday at the company’s premises in Port Harcourt, was conducted under the theme: “The power of independent thinking”.
Deputy Managing Director of the company, Mr Roger Poirer, in his welcome address, said the Open Day Forum, which stated in 2003, has become a yearly practice in Total tradition to impact positively on the lives of the youths.
Poirer, who was represented by the Executive Director, Joint Venture Offshore, Mr. Patrick Ngene, said “at this point in time in the history of our country’s politics, it becomes very important for our youths to know about the dangers of peer group pressure”.

In her presentation, Barrister Odihiri-Garffa, harped on the need for the youths to resist being used as agents of destabilization in the present democratic process.
Presenting her paper on life-style and health, Dr Patrick Ngene, identified the various factors affecting the health development of the youths, such as peer pressure, lack of information, genetic factors and environmental influence.
She cautioned the youths on the vices of drug abuse and violence.
The event also featured spelling competition, question and answer sessions and presentation of gifts to the participating schools.
