Nigeria’s U-20 side, the Flying Eagles should work harder if they must do well at the 2011 African Youth Championship (A YC) in Libya, Samson Siasia advised on Sunday.

Siasia told newsmen in an interview in Abuja that the team needed further improvement to surmount the challenges ahead at the A YC.

“The team needs to improve for it to get better and be able to excel in Libya next year, and we all will and should rally round the coaching crew to get this done,” Siasia said in reaction to the Flying Eagles’ 2-1  A YC second leg qualifier win over Mauritius.

Tidesports source reports that the Nigerian recorded a 4-1 aggregate victory over the Mauritians to seal their place in the competition scheduled for March 18 to April 1, 2011.

He however, said he would pass his observations on how to improve the team to the John Obuh-led coaching crew.

Siasia observed that the championship in Libya was ‘not going to be an easy affair”.

“Judging from our past experiences in the competition, since the 80s when it was on home and away knockout basis, the competition is getting tougher every time.

“At Libya, Nigeria will be a target of others, with our pedigree, and we just need to prepare and put in place a better team to be able to excel and qualify for the 2011 FIFA Under-20  World Cup.”

Siasia, who was at the Abuja National Stadium on Saturday, said the team did not inspire with its performance.
