RSG To Build Trailer Park In Eleme
Worried by the indiscriminate parking of trailers and tankers along Eleme-Onne road, the Rivers State government has planned to construct a trailer park in that axis, as part of the on-going transport reform agenda of the state.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Transport, George Tolofari, disclosed this last Thursday, during the inspection tour of the state mega bus terminal at Omagwa in Ikwerre local government area.
According to him, the idea was conceived following the alarming rate of indiscriminate parking of trailers and tankers on the two sides of the road along Eleme/Onne route by drivers waiting to load products from the Eleme Refinery and Eleme Petro-chemical (Indorama) company. And the only way to checkmate the menace is to provide a sizeable trailer park for them, he added.
He said that the trailer park, which will be sited at Eleme in addition to the mega bus terminal when completed will accommodate trailers waiting to load from Noterea (NAFCON) in Onne, Eleme Refinery, Eleme Petrochemical and Onne Port.
His word: “By the time we complete the trailer park at Eleme, all trailers will be mandated to move into the trailer park. They can only come out when they have business to do in the Refinery or Petrochemicals.
The Commissioner re-affirmed the state government’s commitment towards improving transportation system of the state, saying that residents should exercise little patience and that by the time plans put on ground start materialising, transport system in the state will meet international best practices.
